Rio Tinto Alcan's (RTA) Yarwun Refinery in Gladstone is our newest refinery and the only high temperature Alumina Refinery in Au stralia. The Rio Tinto Alcan Yarwun refinery is situated north-west of the central Queensland port city of Gladstone, which is adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef. The Yarwun team is committed to achieving new benchmark performance levels in engineering and construction, community relations, and health, safety and environment. Yarwun is RTA's first wholly owned and operated Alumina Refinery. The first alumina refinery to be built in the western world in over twenty years, its design draws on the best available proven technology.
Reporting directly to the HR Specialist, with a functional link to Rio Tinto Alcan Community Relations; the primary purpose of this key role is to provide the RTA Gladstone's HR team with the administrative support to assist in bridging cultural gaps existent between RTA Gladstone's leaders and employees (Indigenous and non Indigenous). The administrative support will also extend to assisting the local Indigenous community members transition into employment with RTA Gladstone. This role will be based at Yarwun however will operate with a "One Team" approach to assist in the implementation of the RTA Gladstone's Indigenous Employment Strategy.
Key Accountabilities of the role will include but are not limited to:
· Providing administrative support to the Human Resources team, including all logistics activities
· Supporting RTA Gladstone's leaders and/or mentors in developing skills to effectively deal with cultural awareness issues, thereby maximising the effectiveness of their Indigenous team members
· Building and supporting Indigenous team member capability in organisational protocols thereby maximising team member effectiveness
· Building and supporting local Indigenous community capability for employment within RTA Gladstone
· In the role of Decentralised Document Controller for the HR team, act as the document management owner for that team
· Identify administrative improvement initiatives in HR processes and facilitate change as appropriate
The ability to establish relationships, communicate effectively and liaise with relevant departments and RTA Indigenous Employees will be a key focus for this role. In addition the incumbent will be required to have a working understanding of the refinery's operations and will have a detailed understanding of the Yarwun organisational structure.
This exciting opportunity will give you the chance to demonstrate your experience working in a similar role preferably with exposure to Human Resources and/or indigenous employment environments. You will be a confident communicator, capable of building strong relationships across all levels on site including a range of community groups. You will also be an effective problem-solver who works well and autonomously as part of a team. A relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources is desirable but not essential and previous exposure to working with SAP is preferred.
