Program - Albion Park Showground - January 13 And 14
Illawarra Mercury
Saturday January 13, 2001
The Illawarra Mercury today continues its special feature coverage of the South Coast and Tablelands annual shows with the 113th Albion Park Show.
In 1887 The Illawarra Mercury reported a well-attended meeting, held at the Commercial Hotel, to establish the Albion Park Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
The Mercury's commitment to the Albion Park Show and other shows in the district continues beyond 2000.
Show secretary Edna Reedy said the 46-member Albion Park Show committee would handle more than 2000 entries in the 30 different arena and pavilion sections for this weekend's show.
With good weather forecast, Albion Park Show should take more than $50,000 at the turnstiles.
Featuring horse, cattle, poultry, alpaca and angora goat exhibitions, Albion Park Show has every base covered when it comes to farm produce.
There are also the traditional pavilion exhibits - needlework, art, photography, knitting, crochet, cooking, jams and preserves, pot plants and woodwork and handicraft - and of course the Miss Albion Park Showgirl contest.
Tonight features the popular demolition derby and fireworks.
The show finishes tomorrow.
Next week, The Mercury will feature the Dapto Show.
