Program - Kiama Showground - January 26 And 27
Illawarra Mercury
Friday January 26, 2001
The Illawarra Mercury today continues its special feature coverage of the South Coast and Tablelands annual shows with the 153rd Kiama Show.
Kiama - always a popular tourist destination - has had a strong attendance over the years and organisers expect that trend to continue today and tomorrow. Australia Day and Centenary of Federation celebrations will feature performances by the Tungari Aboriginal performance group and Kiama vocal group tonight.
Tomorrow features the final round of the grand prix World Cup Show jumping competition and a spectacular fireworks display. Kiama Show secretary Nancy Waters said a record number of entries were received for the pavilion this year.
Illawarra and jersey cows were also well represented with more than 1000 cattle entries. Mrs Waters said gate takings would be weather dependant but with fine conditions predicted today and tomorrow she expected taking to exceed $20,000.
Entry is $8 adults and competitors; $6 pensioners; $5 children under 16.
